About Abode
I am not an expert and I’m not a doctor. I’m just a person who was sick and now is well and I love food and learning more about healthy living. I enjoy learning and I change things as I grow and learn more, you’ll see that in my journey here and as I talk about where I’ve been. I also am new to recipe writing. I am a make-it-up-as-I-go type of cook which is not great for sharing recipes! I want this blog to feel like you’re in my home with me cooking up a storm and trying new recipes together. I will do my best to grow into a fully awesome food blog with great and precise recipes. But for now it’ll be a little loose and more about getting yourself familiar with your kitchen and cooking basic, healthy foods. I do some gluten free, some dairy free recipes and I live mostly paleo. I’ll specify those in the titles so they’re easier for you to find. I do have a sweet tooth so you’ll also find breads, baked goods and our favorite, chocolate fat bombs.
Meet the main chefs in this abode!
I am daughter of the King, wife, mama and Bethany. My little is Jack Truman, little mouse (sometimes rat), and lemon drop. Our favorite person is Papa, Ethan Burt, my charming and perfect husband. We love our little abode after nine years of fixing it up and blooming where we’ve been planted, in Danville, Illinois. When I met my husband I was very sick. Unwell in all areas of life. He taught me about food. I still don’t have a natural desire to eat well or be healthy, it’s a real challenge for me, but it’s been the best journey for me and my family. Real food was given to us by a Good God, with good plans for those who love Him. Our world has decided that quick and easy is better, but it’s killing us all. I have much to learn and I love learning through eating! My goal here is to share my journey into wellness (I’ve been miraculously healed as well as good old fashion healthy eating to healing) and the way I grow to love whole, healthy foods. We cook simply, shop locally, cook slowly with little hands helping and share recipes with those around us. I’ve never grown my own food so you’ll see that bloom and grow in our backyard and maybe some tears along the way because learning something new is hard! But, we can do hard things.
