Iced Coffee
Today is all about the iced coffee. I will be doing a Chemex today.
It’s just a positively wonderful experience to make and to drink! I’ll link you to my favorite making coffee must haves before we get into the simple recipe.
What you need
For an Iced Chemex :
Chemex’s are beautiful. They just are so lovely. There are so many options and I do plan to get more educated on when to use what style. But for now, this is what we have and use every day : Chemex
Coffee, of course. I recommend Mad Goat, Obsidian and Quills. You will want to grind your own fresh coffee every time for best quailty and ultimate enjoyment but you can get preground coffee if you must. There are loads of grinders out there and I’m not fully happy with the one we have now (it’s too messy, especially for the price tag). But it does have the grind settings so I know I’m getting the correct grind and that is great.
There are smaller grinders, which I’ve also used but they can be hard to get the correct grind for the type of coffee you’re making.
Electric Kettle- This is the one we have and love. It’s $100. You can go fancier, like I wouldn’t mind this one I have my eye on. But eletric is going to be the very best because you can set it to your exact temperature, which is very important in making a perfect cup of coffee.
Coffee scale - I have ruined a few of these with moisture which I think is ridiculous because I’m using water and I’m messy and things get spilt. So I would definitely look into a super water resilient one. This is the one I currently have.
Desired glass for having a pretty iced coffee look. I love mason jars, everytime, all the time. You can get cute ones, basic ones, whatever floats your boat. You can get fancy lids and straws. There are plenty of options for fun and function here.
Okay, let’s get to the fun part, making the coffee!
Ingredients
Coffee
Water
Ice
Oatmilk or milk/milk alternatives *optional
Make it
212g Ice
48g Coffee
340g Water (at 204 degrees)
Rinse the filter under the sink and then put it in the chemex. Measure the coffee into the filter and create a well with your finger or spoon. You want your coffee to bloom so begin to pour just enough water to cover the grounds and let bloom for 15-30 seconds. Pour clockwise, slowly the rest of the water. Prepare your glass with more ice and whatever else you add to your coffee. I drink black or add oat milk.
Whatever you don’t use today, store for tomorrow in the fridge! Enjoy!
